CBD For High Blood Pressure

CBD For High Blood Pressure

Today we will discuss one more CBD benefit, together with learning about our body. We will talk about blood pressure (BP). Main questions that we would like to answer today would be, what is blood pressure? Why is it higher? Most importantly, are there benefits of CBD for high blood pressure?

What is blood pressure?

In simple words, we can say that the measure of the force that your heart uses to pump blood around your body is Blood pressure. When we measure blood pressure we always get two numbers. The “upper” or systolic pressure shows the force that your heart pushes the blood out. The “lower” or diastolic pressure is when your hear is resting in between beats. Blood pressure is measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg).  These numbers a quite important and if you know your blood pressure when you are relaxed it is easy to notice when it gets higher and what has caused it.

Ideal BP

The ideal blood pressure should be anywhere between 90/60 and 120/80. Going through life, as we age, our vascular system changes. Our arteries get stiffer. Blood pressure goes up. This is true for everyone, even if you are living a healthy lifestyle, blood pressure still raises.

Everybody knows that as we age blood pressure rises, it doesn’t mean that ideal blood pressure numbers would rise. It is still considered that if BP goes above 140/90 it should be treated. Important to notice, that in the USA, last year, a panel of experts relaxed recommendations for people 60 and older, saying drug treatment should only start at pressures of 150/90. It was suggested, that people 60 and older whose pressure is over 140/90 but less than 150/90 could take other steps like losing weight, exercising and reducing salt intake.

Why My BP Is Higher?

Many factors can cause higher blood pressure, so we will mention the main ones, which affect us the most.

This factor, that we have mentioned at the beginning of an article is AGE. The risk of high blood pressure increases as a person becomes older because the blood vessels become less flexible.

GENES or simply family history. If you have someone in your family with high blood pressure, there are more chances that you might develop it in the future. But it all depends on you and your chosen lifestyle.

ETHNIC background. Studies have shown, that African-American people have a higher risk to develop high BP. 75% of African-Americans had developed high blood pressure ad they are less responsive to a certain medication, compared to just 55% of white men and 40% of white women and they are less . This means that lifestyle choices are very important from an early age as researchers note, that many of these differences developed by age 30, highlighting the need for early intervention.

OBESITY and being overweight. It is true, that People who are overweight or have obesity are more likely to develop high blood pressure. The main reason for this, that individuals with obesity have an increase in fatty tissue. It increases their vascular resistance and in turn, increases the work the heart has to do to pump blood throughout the body and results in higher BP.

GENDER. Men are at greater risk for cardiovascular and renal disease than are age-matched, premenopausal women. But, women are more likely to develop high blood pressure after the age of 65. Also, important to note, that one study found that transgender women who take hormones were more than twice as likely to have a stroke and deep vein clots compared to cisgender men and women. The sad thing, that in many cases transgender individuals, don’t engage in preventive care at the same rate as cisgender people, primarily because they fear discrimination or lack resources and easy access.

Being INACTIVE. Lack of exercise raises the risk of high BP. Especially if at work you do not move a lot, for example sitting at the office all day. Our body needs to move. Movement affects everything, from circulation to digestion to metabolism to immunity. With movement, our bodies regulate hormone activity, detoxify and respire. We know how hard sometimes it is to make yourself to move, but once you managed to do that you can be sure that you can do that second and third time.

Bad HABITS. Smoking, alcohol and malnutrition are three things that should be changed if you care about your health. Smoking causes the blood vessels to narrow and reduces the blood’s oxygen content, so the heart pumps faster to compensate, causing an increase in blood pressure. Drinking high amounts of alcohol can dangerously raise blood pressure and increase the risk of heart failure, stroke, and irregular heartbeat. A diet which is high in fats and salt leads to a high risk of hypertension. You can see that these three things play a huge role in your health’s wellbeing.

STRESS. We see and hear this word everywhere: on TV, on the radio, on the ads, the list could go on and on. The main thing that we should understand about stress, that it is our reactions. Probably 8 in 10 times after something has happened, you tell to yourself “oh it wasn’t that bad, I don’t even understand why I was stressed about it.” But we never think of what these moments do to our body. Stress can have a severe impact on blood pressure, especially when it is chronic. The more stressed you are, the more stressed you will be. You need to learn to control it if you want to be healthy.

The last, but probably one of the most important and we have mentioned it in many of our blogs – SLEEP. In this case, it is the lack of it. It is important to know, that people who sleep 5 hours or even less a night may be at higher risk of developing high BP. Even if you sleep up to 6 hours, you will still have an increased risk of high blood pressure. Sleep is very important for the whole body and our mind. We think that it would be worthy to skip that one episode of your favourite series in the evening and instead take care of yourself and give that 1 extra hour of sleep to yourself.

How CBD can help to prevent high BP

Cannabidiol has so many benefits, that it can help to improve many factors that we have mentioned today. But, are there benefits of CBD for high blood pressure? Let’s take it to step by step.

Several studies showed, that CBD Hemp reduces anxiety related to public speaking or fearful stimuli. It also reduces the cardiovascular response to anxiety or stressful situations. The potential ability of CBD Hemp treatment in humans to reduce the cardiovascular (as well as behavioural) response to stress could have significant effects on the development of atherosclerosis (a disease in which plaque builds up inside your arteries) and hypertension, which are known to be accelerated by stress.

One valuable study with rats showed that Cannabidiol can significantly reduce infarct size. A single dose of CBD given 10 min pre-ischaemia (inadequate blood supply to an organ or part of the body, especially the heart muscles). Infarct size was also reduced when CBD Hemp was given before reperfusion (the action of restoring the flow of blood to an organ or tissue, typically after a heart attack or stroke).

Such results are great news. Of course, we need more studies on humans, to be able to confirm this, but most CBD studies that were positive on animals had similar results on humans.

Another human study showed, that Cannabidiol reduces resting BP and the BP increase to stress in humans, associated with increased heart rate. This means, that CBD reduces the cardiovascular response to various types of stress. This is a significant finding, which can help us naturally feel more relaxed, especially in times like this where everyone is rushing and trying to do more and more thongs at once.

Many clinical trials have proved, that CBD Hemp helps to manage stress and anxiety. Also, it helps to maintain better sleep. It helps to quit smoking or relieve other unwanted symptoms from substances like alcohol, drugs or even coffee. CBD for high blood pressure can help to reduce stress together with lowering your BP.  It allows muscles to heal and get much stronger than traditional products, so it is easier for you to exercise and be more active. Cannabidiol is a nowadays saver that can help with many issues, but has great price and is 100% natural.
