But there are people, who have such strong headaches that it affects their everyday life.

Migraine is a neurological condition. It can cause multiple symptoms that as we have mentioned before affects a person’s everyday life. The first symptom is frequently characterized by intense, debilitating headaches. It may also include nausea, vomiting, difficulty speaking, numbness or tingling, and sensitivity to light and sound. What’s interesting about Migraines is that it often run in families and it can affect all ages, from the young ones to the eldest.

Some facts

To get you more familiar with this disease, we want to introduce some facts. Migraine is a very serious condition that is often overlooked by people. Some of us still think that it is just a simple headache that you feel every day. Migraines are different from other headaches. It is also serious, that headache is 12th for women and the 19th most disabling condition for men, according to the World Health Organisation.

More important is that 1 in 7 in the UK has such severe headaches or Migraine, that they need to see a doctor.

More people suffer from headaches than the combined number of those who suffer from diabetes, epilepsy and asthma.

Headaches are the most common cause of pain. 20% of children have headaches that bother them at least once a week. The scary thing is that the diagnosis is often incorrect and the headaches are not dealt with.

In addition, women are much more prone to suffer than men: three times as many women as men suffer from headaches and migraine. You might think it is unfair, but women have Special hormonal events, puberty, adolescence, menstrual cycles, pregnancy and menopause. They have so much going on that all this can affect women in particular.

Migraine symptoms

Some Migraine symptoms can begin a few days before the headache. This is known as the prodrome stage. The symptoms might be:

  • food cravings
  • depression
  • fatigue or low energy
  • frequent yawning
  • hyperactivity
  • irritability
  • neck stiffness

There is also a Migraine with aura (also called classic migraine). It occurs after the prodrome stage.

Aura stage is more serious and it can involve:

  • difficulty speaking clearly
  • feeling a prickling or tingling sensation in your face, arms, or legs
  • seeing shapes, light flashes, or bright spots
  • temporarily losing your vision

The third stage, which is the most severe is the so-called attack phase. This stage can last from a few hours to a couple of days and it can even overlap with the aura phase.

Attack phase symptoms may include:

  • increased sensitivity to light and sound
  • nausea
  • dizziness or feeling faint
  • pain on one side of your head, either on the left side, right side, front, or back, or in your temples
  • pulsing and throbbing head pain
  • vomiting

The last phase for Migraine might be postdrome. There could be sudden changes in moods or feelings (sudden ups and downs), a slight headache might be still present at all times.

How CBD can help

CBD is a true saver when we talk about migraines or headaches. First of all, it helps us to relax, calm down, as stress is one of many reasons for headaches. It is especially hard to relax when you are feeling constant headache and even slightest noise can make it worse, but CBD can actually help to improve it.

More clinical trials reveal that CBD can help with Migraines and Mental disorders. This trial shows, the importance of CBD oil for Migraine sufferers.

Endocannabinoid (eCB) system’s role in homeostatic upkeep highlights the importance of this system in maintaining overall health. Disruptions in supply or functionality of eCB ligands (a molecule that binds to another (usually larger) molecule ) have been connected to numerous mental state disturbances and, particularly, to migraine.

It means, that using CBD products will help to easier manage Migraine and overall well-being. Also, an important detail is that if you regularly experiencing chronic migraine pain you may even have huge impacts on your social relationships and job status. This might lead to psychological distress (Ramsden et al., 2015). So, the treatment with endocannabinoids can help to reduce the resulting stress, together with targeting the initial cause by pain reduction.

Important to note, that self-treatment outcome is highly variable, with low doses tending to alleviate migraine while higher doses even triggering headaches (Lu and Anderson, 2017).

Cannabinoids – due to their anticonvulsive, analgesic, antiemetic, and anti-inflammatory effects – present a promising class of compounds for both acute and prophylactic treatment of migraine pain.

Be careful while choosing the best dosage for you and maybe you won’t need to use any more medication. Love your body and take care of your mind too.
